Course Description
This unit outlines the essential skills and knowledge required for the safe operation of a personnel and materials hoist. This includes the operation of cantilever or tower hoists, as well as multiple winches configured to function as a hoist, with the primary purpose of transporting goods, materials, or people.
Course Outcomes
This set of skills covers various crucial aspects related to planning work, hazard identification, and control measures, particularly in the context of equipment operation. It includes:
1. Planning work activities.
2. Identifying and implementing hazard control measures.
3. Selection and inspection of equipment, along with adherence to safety requirements.
4. Site and equipment preparation for safe and effective operation.
5. Calculating Safe Working Loads (SWL) and bearing areas.
6. Understanding licensing, legislative, regulatory, and certification requirements specific to New South Wales (NSW).
7. Applying techniques related to essential tasks within the scope of the specified work.
